My wife and I had been through a very stressful time when our transmission self-destructed at kilometer 320 of the Alaska Highway, three hours north of Fort St. John. I made arrangements with a Fort St. John resident to transport my car home to Sidney. My mechanic didn't have room for the car, so I called Wayne and explained my predicament.
